A first-time private itinerary — a sample ten days in Egypt.

The temptation on a first trip is to see everything. It is a temptation we push back on, gently, in almost every planning conversation. Egypt rewards depth, not distance — and ten unhurried days will generally be more memorable than fourteen frantic ones.

The three anchors

For a first trip, we tend to build around three: Cairo (with the Giza plateau), the Nile between Luxor and Aswan, and a southern element — Abu Simbel, or a quiet day in Nubia. Everything else is optional and depends on your interests.

Sample days 1–3: Cairo

First-time travellers often under-book Cairo. It is a city that punishes hurry: two days is a checklist, three is an experience. A Nile-side heritage hotel or a Zamalek design boutique are both reasonable bases — final selection depends on availability and preference. A sample rhythm: an afternoon walk through Fatimid Cairo, a slow morning at the Grand Egyptian Museum, and a dawn on the plateau.

Sample days 4–8: The Nile

Fly from Cairo to Luxor and board a small Nile vessel between Luxor/Esna and Aswan. Several nights of temples in the morning, sailing in the afternoon, and dinner on deck is a common shape. Charter or cabin arrangements, specific vessels and inclusions are confirmed in your personalised proposal, subject to availability.

Sample days 9–10: Aswan and Abu Simbel

Aswan for a felucca afternoon and dinner overlooking the First Cataract. An early flight to Abu Simbel to spend time with Ramses' colossi before the day-tour groups arrive, returning the same day. A lakeside night on Lake Nasser can be added where available.

What we tend not to add on a first trip

The Red Sea and Siwa are both extraordinary, but they generally belong to a longer trip or a second visit. The aim of the first trip is to make you want a second one.
